The answer comes when you revisit the locker room, and find him slumped against the wall in an office. Don’t run over for a hug though, since he soon stands up and – rather depressingly – turns into a zombie right before your eyes, forcing you to put him down.
It’s impressive that a game with pretty horrid voice acting is still able to make you feel bad about the death of a minor character, and it sets a suitably grim tone for the rest of the game.
