20 Most Embarrassing Video Game Moments Since 2000
10. Jack Thompson And His Campaign Against Video Games
Jack Thompson is an activist and former attorney who hates video games with every single fiber of his being, claiming them to be too violent and that they are tainting the youth of America.
The saga of Jack Thompson is a lot to take in, as he was going head-to-head with the gaming industry for nearly a decade. As previously stated, Thompson was against violent video games, and he did his best to link violent crimes committed by youth to video game violence. For instance, in 2002, 15-year-old Dustin Lynch murdered his friend by stabbing her and beating her. Lynch was a fan of GTA III, and Thompson did his best to link the two.
Thompson would claim that violent video games were "killing simulators" and in turn were teaching youth how to effectively kill others. Most notably GTA, which Thompson would target time and time again.
What's important though is that every single case that Thompson brought to the courts over video game violence over the course of a decade was dismissed. Not once did Thompson succeed in bringing down violent video games or linking them to violence in youth. He even once described Sony, a Japanese company's distribution of violent video games as "Pearl Harbor 2."
It should come as no surprised that he was disbarred in 2008, and banned for life from practicing law.
