20 Most Embarrassing Video Game Moments Since 2000
8. Everything Regarding Aliens: Colonial Marines
It would have been easy to lump this game in with all the other games that were falsely advertised at E3, but the graphical downgrades are just the tip if the iceberg when it comes to this atrocious game.
On top of the very serious graphical downgrade from demo to release is the absolutely awful Alien A.I. the game has since become infamous for. Numerous times the Xenomorphs would become stuck on the terrain around you. Other times they would be hilariously easy to defeat and immensely unresponsive, or they'll do things like this.
There was even more gameplay folly that made the game unbearable. The laser sight didn't line up with where shots were actually going, making it useless. Not to mention there were numerous levels where you fought humans instead of Xenomorphs, because screw fighting Aliens in an Aliens game.
What also didn't help was the fact that Gearbox outsourced majority of the work on the game to multiple studios, leaving it feeling extremely disjointed. The story was never really locked down until late into the game's development as well. All this lead to a class-action lawsuit being filed based on false advertisement. If there's one thing Aliens: Colonial Marines did correctly, it was showing the industry how not to make a game.
