20 Most Embarrassing Video Game Moments Since 2000
7. Sony's 2006 E3 Press Conference
Normally when you think of embarrassing moments from E3, that's exactly what they are - moments. When it comes to Sony's press conference in 2006 however, it was the whole damn thing.
The amount of internet memes that surfaced from this press conference alone are just too damn high. First was the now infamous exclamation of "RIDGE RACER!" from Sony CEO Kaz Hirai that was met with utter silence when talking about the PSP. Next came the presentation of Genji: Days of the Blade which would feature "battles that actually took place in ancient Japan" - which somehow included a battle with a giant crab.
Then there was the reveal of the Sixaxis controller alongside Warhawk where the developer flailed his arms around dramatically to showcase the motion controls that barely mimicked his movements.
The cherry on top of the sh*t-pie would come from the PlayStation 3's reveal price at the end. It was revealed to a shocked audience that the PS3 would cost $499 for a 20GB version and an astronomical $599 for a 60 GB version. The 60GB version would cost you the same as both an Xbox 360 and a Wii at that time, and it dramatically hurt the PS3 upon launch as most just saw it as too expensive a system.
