5. EA Get Labelled The "Worst Company In America"
It's one thing to be despised by the fans, it's another thing to be named The Worst Company in America two years in a row, but that's exactly what EA managed to do back in 2012 and 2013.
The "award" in question was from a fan-voted poll run by The Consumerist, and had been running since 2006. It saw EA beat out companies such as Ticketmaster, Comcast, AT&T, Walmart, The Bank of America and more. EA was then even sent a "golden poo" by The Consumerist for winning the title.
Why? Well, Mass Effect 3 had recently released, and the ending was panned by fans and critics as necessary plot content was resigned to DLC - something EA had requested of developer Bioware. Sim City had also released and was almost entirely unplayable upon launch. Even Dead Space 3 came with microtransactions that completely alienated long time fans. Day-one DLC was announced for almost every one of their games and was viewed as nothing more than a cash-grab, and these are just a few of the problems EA was facing at the time.
All this would lead to EA becoming not just one of the most hated companies in gaming, but in general. While it's safe to say they've cleaned up their act a tad since that infamous award, but their reputation still precedes them and most are yet to fully trust the company.
