20 Most Underrated Video Games Of 2016
3. ReCore
For better or worse, the games industry very rarely make games like ReCore. Its primitive animations, basic cutscenes and minimal exposition are a welcome throwback to the likes of the PS3 shooter, or even the halcyon days of the PS1, when reduced game budgets allowed a far greater array of ideas to get greenlit by publishers.
Indeed, ReCore is hampered by a litany of issues from falling-through-the-floor glitches to straight-up muddy textures, but its gameplay as a lock-on shooter with a focus on loot-grabbing and customisation is still worth a look. You'll roam the open-world, gather up all sorts of materials for your array of A.I. companions, and swap out their personality-driven 'Cores' into different chassis, resulting in a great feeling of progression alongside the tactile and feedback-heavy shooting mechanics.
It's not polished, it's not a triple-A system-seller, but if you're anything of a 90s gamer or someone who adored older consoles for the sheer breadth of what was on offer, ReCore is a weirdly nostalgic throwback that actually works.
