18. Killzone: Shadow Fall

Speaking of grey and brown aesthetics, for their leap to PS4 hardware, Guerrilla Games amped up their own formerly bland visual punch for Killzone, introducing all sorts of technicolour levels and vibrant armour designs.

It was the best Killzone had been, but sadly that's a bar even the likes of Homefront could step over with ease. Yet again the shooting felt flat and weightless, the enemy animations crumpling like wet paper and the story was yet more "We invaded a planet and the people already there weren't happy, let's fight!" nonsense.

A launch title through and through, can we all join hands and cheer the fact that Guerilla have finally been allowed to make something else? Here's to Horizon: Zero Dawn coming before Christmas.
