20 Severely Underrated PS1 Games You Totally Missed

11. Colony Wars Vengeance

https://youtu.be/HoAJ_ibAAsY In the days of 3D games being new and exciting, flight games were a pretty big genre. You had realistic flight games, and ones that went for a sci-fi or space combat angle. The Ace/Air Combat games were classics. Descent and Wing Commander were ported from the PC as well, and were on the sci-fi side of the spectrum. Colony Wars also falls into the space combat genre. The Colony Wars series is set in the far future where Earth and various space colonies fight for control of resources. At the end of the first Colony Wars game, the League of Free Worlds traps the Earth Empire Colonial Navy in the Sol solar system by closing a warp gate. The Earth Empire slowly descends into civil war. An enigmatic figure reunites the Empire, leads the campaign to reopen the warp gate, and restarts the war with the League. Very much the stuff of space operas. The gameplay is some of the best space combat you€™ll find on the console. You get a selection of different types of armaments to cycle through while in dogfights. After each mission, you can do upgrades to your fighter, get new weapons, or even new craft. Actual combat is difficult at first, but very fun and doesn€™t ever have a lack of depth perception like many PS1 games. While no PS Store release exists, it€™s very easy to find a copy of this classic used.
