20 Severely Underrated PS1 Games You Totally Missed

20. Ghost In The Shell

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QiaB8eVXaE Before Ghost in the Shell was a major pop culture fixture, you had three choices: the original manga, the movie - and this obscure PS1 game. While the game itself is part of a multimedia €œpush€ from the release of the movie, it actually doesn€™t follow that established story. Instead, we are put in the shoes of a nameless recruit to Section 9. A terrorist organization named the €œHuman Liberation Front€ has attacked a cybernetics firm, and you're being sent in to investigate. The gameplay revolves around the rookie piloting a Fuchikoma tank in a series of missions, and while the camera switches between first and third person views, you can actually play this in a first person. The Fuchikoma can strafe, jump, thrust, walk on walls and even the ceiling. The missions within all have differing objectives that prevent things from becoming stale, including some simple search and destroy, bomb defusal and hunting down a thermal cloaked enemy. Another nice aspect is the animated FMV scenes. The story gets a lot of its thrust from these, and the kicker is that they are fully animated by the original movie's production studio. The unfortunate thing about Ghost in the Shell is that it€™s only available used. It€™s not expensive, but a PS Store reissue would be greatly appreciated.
