20 Severely Underrated PS1 Games You Totally Missed

19. Wild Arms 2

https://youtu.be/3AA8qTasAmA Wild Arms is a game franchise that, despite having a decent amount of games and even an anime adaptation, has never really been able to gain anything but cult status, especially in the west. Wild Arms 2 in particular was a game that, despite getting a media push with magazine advertisements, was seemingly overshadowed by the Final Fantasy juggernaut. This sequel tells the story of Ashley, Brad, and Lilka; a diverse trio recruited into the anti-terror unit ARMS to fight a group called Odessa. One of the most unique aspects of Wild Arms 2 is the aesthetics. Set in the world of Filgaia, a desert planet, the entire world of the game mashes up wild west imagery with steam-punk trappings. Very comparable to the styling of the Trigun anime. The game itself is quite a bit like a standard turn-based RPG; you travel through an over-world map to reach town and dungeons, where along the way you will encounter random enemies and level up from experience gained through beating them. The actual battles are pretty standard too, as each character takes a turn attacking, defending, using a spell, etc. The dungeons themselves typically contained puzzles. Your party members all had one special ability they could use, and the puzzles typically revolved around figuring out which ability solved it. Wild Arms 2 is thankfully available on PSN Store, with used copies being very easy and cheap to obtain too.
