20 Severely Underrated PS1 Games You Totally Missed
18. Cyberbots: Full Metal Madness
Quite a few fighting game fans know Jin Saotome, the hot blooded mech pilot in the first two Marvel vs. Capcom games. He would call out his robot during his special moves, then have it shoot or smash his opponents. However, few probably know of (and fewer in the west have ever played) the game he debuted in: Cyberbots. Cyberbots takes place at the end of the 21st century, with the backdrop of a brewing war between Earth's government and the space colonies. The appearance of the robots takes inspiration from the genre of anime, and the main mech of the game, the Blodia, is much akin to the the Scopedog from the Armored Trooper Votoms series. At first it looks like the standard 2D fighter that Capcom is so famous for. You pick from a selection of nine pilots and variant armours, but although your choice of robot determines how you play, the choice of character decides how the story will play out. Like the Armored Core games, you can mix and match parts, and even knock parts off of enemies during a fight. One reason most in the west never played this game is because it never was released outside of Japan until recently. Sony finally put it on PS Store, though it remains untranslated. Since it's a fighting game though, that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
