20 Severely Underrated PS4 Games You Must Play

1. Mad Max

Like a hand-fan trying to get noticed in a hurricane, Mad Max's sales and cultural impact was positively dwarfed by Metal Gear Solid V's final instalment lapping up everything from hardcore fans to the general public in its midst. That's a real shame, as critically it seemed to take a bit of a drubbing too - mostly because it essentially plays like Open-World Video Game: The Game. Outposts are yours for the clearing, there are a ton of moves and armour parts to unlock, you're procedurally clearing out the map, and there's even a loot system governing the rollout of unlockables. It all comes together very nicely though, giving you a solid reason to both get stuck into the ridiculously brutal melee combat (more on that in a sec) alongside customising the Magnum Opus; your own personal hellride purpose-built to withstand the wasteland. Blasting homemade rockets at convoys before harpooning their drivers directly out the far-side window is one thing, but the melee combat, whoo boy. Between the maelstrom of blood, dust and oil that kicks up around your feet, the combat here is a far more lumbering affair than Batman's, despite sharing the same control scheme. When you connect with a wound-up right hook you really connect with it, the resulting pile of broken bones crumpling in slow motion easily highlighting the entire experience past the competition. MGS V may be spectacular, but don't let that overshadow this other incredible release that's just as much worth checking out. What do you think is the most underrated PS4 game out there?
