7. Pokémon Invented YOLO

One of the 21st Century's numerous indictments about the depressing devolution of humankind is the proliferation of phrases like 'Y.O.L.O' into our daily vocabulary. Standing for 'You Only Live Once', this sentiment has come to be the justification spoiled teens give themselves for wasting more and more of their parents' money on huraches and phone cases.

What you may not know, however, is that this phrase actually had humble beginnings in Pokémon's first generation. A biker just outside of Saffron City utters the phrase to the player when approached, adding that he lives every day to the fullest to make up for life's fleeting nature.

While we could chastise the Pokémon franchise for helping such an acronym into our culture, the series and its utterer deserve more. If the people who stroll around screaming Y.O.L.O had the same noble intentions as this infamous biker, perhaps the phrase wouldn't be so universally loathed by now...
