20 Things RPGs Taught Us About Life

3. Love Triangles

As the main hero, if you're a bloke, you're almost always going to run into at least two attractive females, both of whom are after your affections. One will probably be a childhood chum who secretly harbours an all-consuming love for you, while the other will be a kindly and sweet newcomer who steals your surly heart and bewitches you with her flirting. Despite the fact that you're probably a bit of a headcase and extremely hard work (and even optionally may be completely unsociable), neither of these girls will waver in their conviction to woo you. If, on the other hand, you're a female protagonist, there's probably nobody in the world worthy of your love.

2. Get Out There and See The World!

Even though you're probably about sixteen - or even, in some cases, around eight - your parents (of which there is usually only one of them around) will be quite happy to let you go out and see the entire planet, battling the ferocious monsters that litter the landscape. They'll set you off on your quest with a few kind words, a pair of shoes and a map, but won't pack your toothbrush, camping gear, food, spare underwear or anything else that's generally essential for going on a trip. It is also perfectly acceptable not to maintain contact with your parents, unless you happen to be in the area and want to be healed.
