20 Things We Learned From Gamescom 2016
5. Namco's Little Nightmares Is Like Tim Burton Meets Limbo
For a while you couldn't move for pixellated side-scrolling indie platformers, yet now as we've moved past that 'fad', the next wave seems to be bringing a more tactile edge. Already there's been Limbo, Unravel, Inside and Trine to contend with, yet Namco are entering the ring with Little Nightmares, a conceptual title that looks to be set inside the mind of a child.
The build we got hands-on with only showed one level, but within we were chased by a contorted, nightmarish chef, before placing a few objects around a level to escape and eventually having to wade through a sea of shoes before another unseen horror cut everything to black.
Tarsier Studios made a big point of framing all the visuals and enemy design from a child's perspective - something that gave Little Nightmares a bit of a Tim Burton-esque vibe when in motion. Every object and visual cue in the game is integral to the wider picture, and with minimal dialogue, if you were a fan of Inside, it's time to get very excited.
