20 Video Games That Are About To Make A HUGE Comeback
5. Fable
Launching in 2004, Peter Molyneux's fantastical RPG allowed players to shape their hero’s personality, appearance, and destiny based on decisions both big and small. Fables’ influence can be seen in modern games that emphasise player agency and consequence, cementing it as a pioneer in interactive storytelling.
But after Fable III's mixed reviews, cancelled spin-offs, and the remaster's lukewarm reception, the trailblazer's reputation became diluted. And when Lionhead Studios closed up shop, it looked like Fable was gone for good.
But that should all change, since Playground Games' Fable reboot is set for release next year. Though it seems odd to have Forza developers at the helm, their track record with open-world visuals and large-scale environments is rock-solid. Eidos-Montreal's involvement is also reassuring since they have a talent for world-building and systems design, as can be seen in Deus Ex and Tomb Raider.
Although it's been delayed for a year, this indicates the team is taking their time to fine-tune and polish every aspect of this highly anticipated project. (After all, the last thing we need is another buggy launch.)
Considering how much freedom Fable offered 20 years ago, it should be breathtaking to see how far the latest instalment will go.
