Although Heroes of Might and Magic involves a lot of construction, recruitment, and maintenance, the mechanics and goals were surprisingly clear. The gameplay was easy to learn but hard to master, creating a balance that let casuals enjoy the strategy-based franchise while veterans can dive into competitive playthroughs.

Even though follow-ups were released at regular intervals, the negative reception of the last entry led to a decade-long pause. Luckily, Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era is almost open us.

As the title suggests, the game discards the modern retcons and returns to the original continuity, which should alleviate purists. Olden Era is also expected to be mod-friendly and includes a new scenario editor, spicing up the old-school gameplay. While leaning on the formula that made the series great, there will be mechanics from later instalments to entice modern gamers.

Most importantly, we already got a taste of Olden Era, since a demo was released on Steam, which was heavily praised. Considering it's been placed very highly on the Steam wishlist, making a comeback isn't just expected from Heroes of Might and Magic but guaranteed.
