20 Video Games That Secretly Reward You For Failure
9. Fail The Brotherhood (And Then Destroy Them) - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Skyrim offers hundreds of quests for you to complete, but with this said, nearly all of them feel incredibly linear.
Most of the time it may seem like you don't have much say in what your character does, other than completing objectives, but at least in the case of the Dark Brotherhood questline, there is actually a huge decision you can make.
It's just that you make it by failing your objective.
After you finish the quest to kill Grelod the Kind, the Dark Brotherhood's leader, Astrid, will kidnap you to recruit you into their murdering family.
At this point you're supposed to kill one of the three kidnapped victims to prove your worth, but it is possible to fail the quest by pointing your blade at Astrid instead.
Killing the masked assassin will fail the recruitment mission but will then immediately start another quest to destroy the Dark Brotherhood once and for all.
The quest will have you ally with the Penitus Oculatus, the Brotherhood's biggest enemies, to eliminate all of the assassins, and if you complete it, you're rewarded with 3,000 gold, and you get to keep the Brotherhood's secret lair all to yourself.
In a way, your failed initiation has turned you into the greatest assassin possible.
