We've seen them mature and try new things, going from multiple platformers and iconic characters, through action-adventures and emotional post-apocalypse hellrides. The Last of Us is their greatest achievement yet, justifiably heralded as gaming's 'Citizen Kane moment' thanks to marrying incredibly engaging and relatable cutscenes with a sense of immersion that truly made you care on a genuine human level about what happened to travelling companions Joel and Ellie. Essentially 'just another zombie story' at face value, it's a masterclass in narrative delivery from scriptwriters Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley.
