2018's Biggest Video Game Protagonists - Ranked From Worst To Best
15. Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum (Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom)

Compounding the disappointment of Ni No Kuni II feeling like a cheap, rushed-out sequel was the decision to introduce an irritating new protagonist by way of King Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum.
If his gratingly high-pitched voice and wooden delivery weren't immediately offputting, his optimistic desire for peace quickly veered from endearing territory into naivety, falling far short of young Oliver's easy charm in the previous game.
Ultimately Roland Crane would've made for a far more interesting and likeable protagonist - though he almost kinda is anyway - because between Evan's generic design, annoying voice and ridiculous worldview (even accepting that he's a child), he's incredibly difficult to warm to.
Evan plays fine enough, but beyond that? Nope.
