16. Spyro The Dragon

In a sea of animal gaming mascots ranging from trouser-wearing marsupials to wisecracking geckos, Spyro proved that little purple dragons certainly had a place.

Spyro may have been one of the smallest dragons ever, but he made up for this with his badass arsenal of moves. Whether he was charging across the landscape after a mocking thief (neh, neh, neh, neh, neh!), breathing fire up the backside of evil creatures or flying over the levels and collecting items, Spyro could do it all.

Spyro's success was great; so much so that he had three of his own games on the PS1 alone and was almost as popular as Crash Bandicoot. If only he had his own cart racer.

It's sad to see that nowadays poor Spyro has been reduced to appearing in Skylanders.
