25 Best Selling Video Games Of All Time - Ranked

1. Super Mario Bros.

Sales: 40.24 million (#5)

Verdict: Often cited as the greatest video game ever made, Super Mario Bros. saved the industry from financial ruin following the infamous video game crash of 1983 (thanks, E.T.), and was the highest-selling game for a single platform for roughly 30 years, until Wii Sports came along in 2006.

Everyone's played Super Mario Bros. and everyone knows what it's about: a fat plumber jumping around, squashing Goombas, and racing to save Princess Toadstool. It's also aged surprisingly well for, though the graphics no longer astound, the music is still toe-tappingly catchy, and the simple mechanics are easy enough for anyone to pick up, though require committed effort to master.

It may not be quite at the top of the pile as far as sales go, but in terms of perfectly-pitched mechanics and unforgettable iconography, there's no game like it. Which of the highest-selling video games ever are your favourites? Shout them out in the comments!
