Mario just might be the single most iconic and popular hero in video game history. From his very first appearance as the unnamed hero in the original Donkey Kong, this plumber with a heart of gold has been saving his beloved Princess Peach over and over again to the point where it's become a bit of a joke.

But Mario's selfless desire to keep her save is what makes him the ultimate hero. While most would eventually throw their hands up in the air and give up, Mario never pauses to get back out there and face off against Bowser or any other baddie again and again and again. And he always does so with a positive attitude and a smile on his face, and is happy to bring along his brother Luigi or any other ally willing to help.

Best of all, even amidst the endless quests, Mario still finds time to hang with his pals partaking in sports, go-karting, and other recreational activities. Mario truly is a jack of all trades; always moving forward or doing something fun, and this is why he continues to be the mascot of an entire industry.
