As a Splinter Cell operative, he is highly trained in the art of technology, combat, intelligence gathering, and of course stealth, and has used these abilities to serve the interests of the free world numerous times. It's a thankless and ethically questionable job, one that forces him to detach himself emotionally from dangerous situations and observe from the distance.

It takes a strong and accomplished person to do these things, and Sam Fisher does so with the knowledge that he will never receive recognition or adulation from the masses.
