25 Scariest Gaming Moments Of The 2000s

15. The Opening - The Suffering

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6yc07DhQ2A Boasting some of the best creature designs in gaming history, intense gunplay and an intriguing premise, The Suffering is quite simply one of the greatest (and most overlooked) horror titles out there. You control Torque, a man who's been convicted of murdering his wife and children, and the way this ties into the gameplay is particularly interesting as the ending is ultimately determined by your morality during the game, which is designated by "good", "evil" or "neutral" choices. Did he do it? Well, that depends on how you play the character once things get going. The Suffering is more combat-heavy than your usual survival horror game (especially in the latter half), that doesn't take away from the scares as the overall atmosphere of the prison makes for a truly chilling experience. Though no other moment in the game manages to thoroughly terrify as effectively as those opening moments as you take your first decisive steps out into the hell that is Abbott penitentiary; cameras display the massacre in all its grisly detail, dissected bodies crawl across floors and demonic voices plague the hallways. Midway's take on third-person action-horror is an experience that's hard to forget, and if you haven't played this one yet then I suggest you get on that right away.
