Final Fantasy VII, despite being the seventh title in the famous RPG franchise, is a genuine marvel. Amongst Final Fantasy fans, it is considered to be the best and most accomplished game that developer Square ever released. A few minutes into the game, it's easy to see why. Final Fantasy VII tells the insanely complex and beautifully rendered story of Cloud and his attempts to save the world in a game that - at the time - felt unrivalled in its scope and complexity (at least, in terms of RPG). Though Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy IX could have easily made this list, VII takes the prize purely because, in gaming history terms, it was the title that busted open the franchise and brought millions of new fans to its shores. A deeply emotional and utterly spell-binding work of genius that changed the face of gaming forever, Final Fantasy VII stands as an undeniable masterpiece.
