30 Awesome Reasons To Stay Alive In 2017
27. Nintendo Switch (TBA March)
After the categorical failure of the Wii U, Nintendo needs to come out of the gate swinging with their follow-up console, the Switch, which is centered around two modes of play intended to suit an on-the-move player: docked play at home and using the controller as a portable handheld out of the home.
Given how successful Sony and Microsoft's experiments with Remote Play tech have been, this feels like an evolution of that concept, an elegant solution to the issue of bandwidth, video lag and so on, by allowing the player to change their unit's form factor depending on where they want to play.
There's a lot of concern over a line-up of games mostly said to be ports of Wii U titles and the ever-pesky battery life conundrum, while it also remains to be seen whether the casual crowd will go for it. However, its marketing presence is solid, it's got an easily understood name, and distinguishes itself from its competitors just fine.
