24. Microsoft Demos Amazing HoloLens Tech And Teams With Valve VR

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DF2iNC1YgZ4 It was already known ahead of E3 that Microsoft have formed a partnership with VR maestros Oculus Rift, but they bolstered their commitment to the emerging technology by also announcing their teaming with Valve VR, and demoing their new Microsoft HoloLens technology. Using Minecraft, the company demonstrated how players could essentially play the game on any surface in their home, using their hands and voice to manipulate the world. It was unquestionably a trippy and exciting advertisement for the applications of augmented reality technology, though hopefully Microsoft will soon demonstrate how well it works with other games also. A Halo HoloLens demo was shown off to select members of the press, and though it has nothing to do with Halo 5: Guardians, it reportedly did a fine job demonstrating the potential of AR applications in the right environment. Whether it can actually be modified to work in a player's home rather than on a purpose-built E3 set, however, remains to be seen.
