4 Things We Want From Dead Space 3

3. Isolation

Dead Space 2 had a larger supporting cast than the original. Makes sense that if Isaac found his voice he'd need people to talk to. The only thing is tension and that feeling that you are completely alone against the demonic hordes instantly vanishes the moment you introduce other people. Your no longer going it along, there are other people in the same situation who are able to land a supporting role here and there. Maybe even some witty banter. That's why Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a better game than Dead Space 2 is a pure horror sense, because it was simple. It's dark, your lost and completely alone and there's no hope in sight.

Now the location of Dead Space 3 which is said to be an icy planet might make it harder to get the blood pulsing. Ice is usually quite bright and I get the feeling the developers are switching styles from the dark of space to a brighter environment to change things up. Think of it as the assault on the Death Star in A New Hope then changing to the Battle of Hoth in Empire. Same kind of deal. It's also safe to assume that there's a human colony on the planet. Like I've said above, other people equals less scariness. However I know how they can pull this off, so pay attention Visceral Games. All you need to do is turn Dead Space into The Thing. John Carpenter's classic horror movie takes place in the arctic, so the locations are already similar. Isaac is already suffering from a whole range of psychological problems. Throw paranoia into the mix with shape shifting necromorphs and a small but tight team of supporting characters and we could be on to a winner. Not knowing who you can and cannot trust might just be the perfect way to ramp the tension up to 11.
