45 Reasons Why THE LEGEND OF ZELDA Could Be The Greatest Series Of All Time

6. Ocarina of Time Voted Greatest Game of All Time

Not only is this my personal opinion, but it also seems to be that of the publics as The Ocarina of Time was voted Edge magazines greatest game of all time. But why take there word for it? Website, filibustercartoons.com compiled a list of numerous 10 best games of all time lists, The Ocarina came first in almost every list, this came from a selection of review scores and public polls.

7. Some of the Craziest Fans

Keep the fans happy and they'll keep coming back, well no one seems happier than that of Zelda fans. Zelda tattoos, they've done it. Zelda parodies, they've done it. Zelda cosplay, they've done it. Even Zelda weddings have been created for a selection of nerdy couples' special day.

8. Tingle

I'm not sure what to say about Tingle, he happens to be a small 35-year old man, in a leotard, with an epic goatee. First appearing in Majora's Mask, Link would bring him crashing to the ground, and instead of getting upset, he'd offer Link maps of the local area! What a helpful guy, in a leotard... helping kids. Now we've no idea what happened after this, but his popularity seemed to reach new heights. Appearing in other games from the series such as Wind Waker, and he even got his own spin off game, Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland. Yeah, we missed it too. He also featured in a few other Japan only games, which look terrifying to say the least.

9. A Silent Hero

A feature of Link that is always under scrutiny, the fact that he's never been given a voice in any of the games. Apart from the occasional, "Hyaaa!", "Ungh" or "Guwaaaaaa!!!" Link seems to be the only character in the series who is voiceless, this might seem a bit strange especially now when so much money can be spent on voice acting especially on the triple A titles, but I personally enjoy it and believe it makes for a more likable character because he's never able to say something that I won't relate to... or able to say anything at all. Just look at Valve if you don't believe me, Half-Life which was one of the greatest games of it's time and the portal series which has been showered with praise both had protagonists that seem to come from the Hyrule school of linguistics. Now if I haven't convinced you yet, check out the video below. Taken from the Zelda TV series. http://youtu.be/FPxY8lpYAUM We counted this catchphrase being used 29 times, the series only ran for 13 episodes!

10. Bringing Out the Best of Nintendo

The Zelda series has also pushed forward the boundaries of Nintendo, trying to you the consoles engine to it's full potential as well as the selection of quirky features you'd expect with each of Nintendo's platforms. For instance, Ocarina of Time was graphically a great game for it's time. But this was improved upon with Majora's Mask and the N64 expansion pack. Now I'm not entirely sure how the expansion packs came about or how you obtained them, as the small island I came from didn't really supply this kind of thing. I ended up borrowing mine from a friend... That was about ten years ago and I've still got it, so I think this just added to the magic of Nintendo's strange features for me. The expansion pack increased the N64's capabilities and made for a larger more visually appealing game. Zelda games released on the DS used the small handheld to it's full potential, having the player blow, swipe and doodle their way across The Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Some sections of the games also featured a third person perspective similar to that of the console versions which I felt was great, as other games on the system had usually fallen at this hurdle. Sadly, with Twilight Princess. It seemed to be a bit of a rushed port to get it onto the Wii, and the Wii version only included some slight variations for the controller. After this however, Link became the mascot for the light gun attachment in Crossbow Training, admittedly this did seem like an over priced piece of plastic but the game was actually really enjoyable and the boss battles put that expensive plastic to good use. The newest installment, Skyward Sword, now expands on the Wii even further with it's motion controls. No more mind less hacking and slashing, you now have to think about your movements and how each swing can breach the enemy's defences.
