Okay, hear me out on this one. It’s a very odd pick to have another “new character” over a returning character. Geki has been in a couple of Street Fighter games before, most notably the very first Street Fighter. He was the ninja that would relentlessly throw stars and vanish into thin air.

This “Geki” is canonically the second ninja to have the title, and is seen in Vega’s arcade mode ending of Street Fighter V. We know this version of Geki has claws and an acrobatic fighting style. Some characters that had appeared in endings of other characters had new character reveals in previous season updates. I see no evidence to suggest that Geki can’t become a playable fighter.

But what seals Geki’s inclusion is the game listing of every character in Street Fighter’s fifth season so far. Dan came from the Alpha series, Rose’s announcement emphasised Street Fighter IV, and Oro is from Street Fighter III. Every character in Street Fighter 2 has been added to the fifth one, so only the original Street Fighter remains.
