Final Fantasy XIII
The first (and only) game from the main series to be released on the Playstation 3, Final Fantasy XIII was eagerly anticipated by fans, who had to wait several years for its release. Ultimately, many were left disappointed by a game with an incredibly linear narrative that consisted almost solely of walking from a to b, engaging in a battle, and repeating continuously. Soundtrack-wise, the game was the first title in the main series to feature no input from Uematsu, though in general, Masashi Hamauzu's work was a vast improvement on the contributions from multiple composers featured in Final Fantasy XII.
Blinded By Light A somewhat epic dance remix of this track, which serves as the game's main battle theme, exists, though this original isn't too shabby either, particularly when it kicks into overdrive, becoming as rapid and chaotic as the game's fast-paced battle system. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfu0XBf8kmk
The Sunleth Waterscape Perhaps due to the PS3's technology, many of the game's tracks feature vocals, whilst in previous titles only one track would be backed by a human voice. Said voices are distracting in many compositions (as they were in previous games as well), but not in this one, where the (admittedly nonsensical) female tones add to the serenity of the piece. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEEr1jnvFTw
Vanille's Theme Vanille is a thoroughly irritating character throughout the game, though her character theme hints at a melancholic backstory and is the more befitting when you are made aware of her and Fang's somewhat tragic history. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wBnlEj3fo8
Fabula Nova Crystallis Incorporating elements of 'The Promise', which serves as the game's 'main theme' of sorts, this is a highly blissful piece. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKOI_pNK7bE
Serah's Theme Also borrowing heavily from 'The Promise', this theme, vocals and all, is a good fit for the character of Serah, even if it isn't really heard extensively until the game's sequel given that she isn't present for most of the original game's narrative. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlFb-rsw3EI
