5 Heavy Bands Who Sampled Popular Video Games

2. Kids Like Us - "Skate Hate" Samples Various Nintendo Games

The list’s lightest entry comes from Florida hardcore band Kids Like Us. Formed in 2002, the four piece released 3 albums during their decade plus long run. Comprised of fast paced tracks, grimy bass, catchy riffs, and angsty vocals, these full lengths epitomized every part of early 2000s hardcore music.

They managed to do this without taking themselves too seriously, evidenced by our entry from the 2005 release Outta Control. A hat trick for tracks from the five slot, O.C's fifth song “Skate Hate” contains multiple references that any former Nintento kid can't miss.

Most notable is the Overworld theme from The Legend of Zelda game franchise. Koji Kondo's famous theme has been remixed in every way imaginable so it isn't too far-fetched that a 2 second excerpt found its way into the beginning of the hardcore outfit's song.

Speaking of Farfetch'd, the next sound clip nostalgically treats older fans of the Pokemon franchise to the musical bit that plays just before an encounter with a wild Pokemon or an attacking trainer.

The placement at the end of the intro is the perfect way to let all the old school gamers know that business is about to pick up.
