Ask a random American gamer what they think of "Call of Duty". They either love it to death and buy it year after year, or call it a repetitive military fantasy while hating everything about the series and its rabid, obsessive fans. This is what "Dynasty Warriors", a hack-and-slash action game adaptation of China's "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", is to the Japanese market. The series regularly racks up high sales numbers in Japan, but detractors level the same criticisms that plague "Call of Duty" games: Repetitive gameplay and refusal to change the formula for new installments. But, also like "Call of Duty", the fans keep coming back anyway. So if this series has so much in common with one of the highest selling games in the States, why hasn't it caught on in the West? Most Western gamers have not been won over by the repetitive gameplay. Not even a crossover with "Gundam Wing" could change that perception.
