The whole post-apocalyptic semi-future is not exactly uncommon in regards to RPGs and open-world games. Look at the Fallout, Bioshock, or Metro series, for example. Something about a world torn asunder by some viral outbreak, technological overtake, or natural disaster makes gamers feel a bizarre sense of purpose - giving them something to actually fight for.

Horizon Zero Dawn utilizes this post-apocalyptic concept in what already appears to be a phenomenal manner. The player takes on the character Aloy, an archer, as she moves throughout a not-so-barren wasteland controlled by The Machines. The Machines are a seemingly sentient race of technological creatures that appear to have wiped out a huge chunk of humanity. The game boasts a vast expanse of playable area ranging from mountaintops to valleys and even cityscapes.

To be honest, Horizon Zero Dawn seems very much like Monster Hunter but with electronic enemies instead of, well, monsters. Developer Guerilla Games has been very hush-hush with the information they've released about the game. Even with the trailers they have released, not a lot is known about the plot. Right now the most debated topic is whether or not Lance Reddick will be in it.

Regardless of the actors, there's little doubt in anybody's mind that with Guerilla's success with the Killzone series, Horizon Zero Dawn will not disappoint.
