5 Reasons We Don't Need or Want a Mass Effect MMO

4. Mass Effect is a Console Audience

Let's look at some sales figures here, provided by VGChartz.com. Mass Effect 3 sold, as of the time of writing, has sold 3.97 million copies. A measly 600 000 copies of the game were sold on PC, whereas a massive 2.45 million were sold on Xbox 360 and 0.9 million on PS3. Even the PS3, the weakest and newest system for the series, managed to sell 50% more than the PC. MMO's are ALWAYS PC exclusive, leaving out a massive proportion of the market. EA could never invest the money in making an MMO that has such a limited audience. They could think of a solution for this. Make a crappy console MMO. No, that would ruin the PC version, where the genre lives. They could do a proper console port. Not worth their time? The best solution? Simply don't make an MMO. Mass Effect games have also been average console to PC ports, featuring limited anti-aliasing options, poor resolution textures and weak odd control choices. Spacebar for all! The game is obviously first and foremost an Xbox game. Bioware recently revealed that Dragon Age 3 will use the Frostbite 2 engine, so it is likely that the next Mass Effect game will use the uber-engine. The Frostbite 2 engine is far superior on PC, so the game would be a PC to console port. I've already ran over why a PC to console MMO port sucks, so there is simply no way they would do this. And one more thing. A Bioware developed Command & Conquer game is using the engine, so no doubt the rest of Bioware will continue to use the power software.
