5 Things Fable Could Learn From Final Fantasy

1. Full Side-Quest Integration

We return to the criminally under-rated Final Fantasy IX for this entry as, when it comes to side-quest design, it's one of the pinnacles of RPGs.

The side quests in this game are integrated into the storyline, with each beat bringing the player a new way to experience those side quests, whether that be a new area or even some new minigame. Yes, you've hammered buttons to race Hippaul (the true villain of the game, change my mind) but you've also been unlocking rare cards to play in Tetra Master.

In much the same way, the side quests also weave in and out of each other, leading the player into different chocobo forests and delivering Moogle mail around the world. All of this unlocks some of the best items, weapons, and armour in the game before allowing the player access to the ultimate hidden boss creature - Ozma.

Not just Fable, but every game could learn from the masterful way that Final Fantasy IX handles its side quests.
