5 Ways Cyberpunk 2077 Should Follow The Witcher 3's Lead
1. Actually Interesting Side Quests
Too many RPGs involve side quests that include going to a place and wiping out the enemies there or travelling across the entire map picking up one thing and bringing it back, with no real reason given as to why you should be interested in them. Players do these quests to get the rewards or because they're a completionist - not because they are fun.
One of the greatest things about Witcher 3 is that side quests feel meaningful. It's not like all the game's side quests are filled with inventive new gameplay elements, but they usually involve a story which gives players a reason to care about doing them.
Witcher 3's A Towerful of Mice side quest involves a story about a ghost named Annabelle and her former lover Graham. The intriguing story of Annabelle reveals itself slowing throughout the quest. If players choose to bring Graham to the tower to see her, the scene that plays out is brilliantly written, yet tragic. A Towerful of Mice isn't filled with amazing set pieces or a bunch of new gameplay mechanics (besides a lantern to see ghosts), but it does offer a compelling story that keeps players invested.
The side quests in Witcher 3 are treated with as much care and feel almost as important as the main ones. Hopefully, CD Projekt RED realises that side quests played a huge part in making Witcher 3 as fantastic as it was, and they put the same efforts into the side quests for Cyberpunk 2077.
