50 Greatest Games Of This Generation

19. Limbo

20 LimboPlatforms: PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 Release Date: 21 July, 2010 Another indie game that came about because of the XBLA and PlayStation Network and yes, it is another platformer. Limbo however isn€™t your traditional run-of-the-mill platformer. The simple controls allowed anyone to pick up and play it, with the only in game actions being moving, jumping and grabbing objects. The puzzles encountered throughout are individual, elegantly designed and while not overly taxing offer a suitable challenge. The atmosphere created by the eerie monochrome graphics and limited sounds prove that sometimes less can be more. The creepy enemies and silhouetted backgrounds provide the perfect setting. Limbo offered an immersive experience unlike any other platformer.

18. Rock Band 2

19 Rock Band 2Platforms: PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 / Nintendo Wii Release Date: 19 October, 2008 Harmonix left Activision to create a new franchise after Guitar Hero II and what they came up with was Rock Band. They evolved the music rhythm genre to include drums, microphones and multiple guitars. The developers refined everything from the first game to create Rock Band 2. With a better interface, more online modes and a collection of new features deigned to make the game more accessible to rookie players make this game the best music game released. Although there was much fun to be had playing by yourself, playing in groups of four (either online or locally) offered the some of the best multiplayer action out of any game for years.

17. Dark Souls

18 Dark SoulsPlatforms: PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 Release Date: 7 October, 2011 Despite being so high on the list this game will not be to everyone€™s tastes. It is a hardcore role-playing game that takes difficulty to the extreme and will consume more of your time than almost any other console game. Dark Souls carries on the traditions of Demon€™s Souls with similar combat and progression but it by far a bigger and better game. The game teaches you how to defeat enemies and overcome obstacles by killing you until you learn your lesson. It€™s cruel, but if you can get past that you will be engrossed completely in a game universe like no other.
