31. Dead Space
Platforms: PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360
Release Date: 24 October, 2008 EA created a horror game in Dead Space that actually managed to scare. Only Amnesia: Dark Descent has been a more frightening gaming experience in the past 10 years. The plot of Dead Space isnt the most spectacular. You take the role of Isaac Clarke who is one of only three survivors of an attack from terrible monsters. Fairly standard by horror plot standards, but where Dead Space really shines is in its atmosphere. The eerie music and well-designed levels really provided a bleak setting. Even little things like removing the HUD added to the suspense.
30. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved
Platforms: Xbox 360
Release Date: 19 October, 2008 Geometry Wars started life as a bonus mini game in Project Gotham Racing 2. However it stood out and was later remade and released on the Xbox Live Arcade by Bizarre Creations. The newly designed game was an instant hit on the platform. Like most successful arcade games, the concept of Geometry Wars is incredibly simple. You are a ship being attacked by an assortment of shapes and you have to destroy them with one of three possible weapons. But things soon become much more complex as the screen fills with colours and shapes leading to intense action. There is no end game. You simply have to post a high score, which as you might imagine leaves you constantly trying to move yourself up the leaderboard.
29. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Platforms: Nintendo Wii
Release Date: 20 November, 2009 Mario first launched to gaming stardom in the side-scrolling platformer Super Mario Bros. Despite moving to 3D with the Nintendo 64 2D version of the game have remained popular. New Super Mario Bros. Wii stays relatively true to the original formula but does introduce some new powers and features. The biggest addition, and the one that worked best, was the inclusion of multiplayer. The co-op was hugely fun and re-invented traditional platformers and moved the game closer to a party game that can be enjoyed in groups rather than on your own.
