6 Common RPG Character Cliches And The Disorders They Suffer From

2. Rival-Like Character Who Turns To The Dark Side or Starts Off There, But Realizes It Wasn't So Great

Schizoaffective Disorder (Delusional, hallucinations, lack of emotion, lack of motivation, strange movements ranging from holding positions to hyperactivity with no purpose) Patients: Riku (Kingdom Hearts), Richard (Tales of Graces), Seifer (FFVIII), Albel (Star Ocean: Till the End of Time), Terra (Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep) Oh the ever-so-messed-up anti-hero who is lured into the promises of the darkness. You sir, give the "cool guy" a run for his money when it comes to fan favorites. You usually start off as a mere friend or rival to the protagonist, but when the big baddie offers you visions of power, you suddenly see yourself arriving at the Hollywood red carpet in a stretch limo with dozens of women - or men - surrounding you. It's hard to reject such a star-studded promise, but you still question it. Then the big baddie you just met says your friends who you grew up with have suddenly abandoned you and there is no hope left. So you take the deal with every delusion you can imagine. You start to actually think you're alone and picture everyone leaving you even though your "friends" constantly say otherwise and don't kill you after every fight - even though you want to kill them. But wait! After spending a large chunk of the game hindering the saving of the world, you realize you want to live after all and you really were just delusional in the end. Best friends for life!
