4. Here Comes The Pain: Remastered
It all started with a tweet. A game developer for Yuke's, Bryan Williams, sent out “had a 6 hour meeting with my co-workers discussing plans for a project that I hope becomes a reality. We played a lot of SmackDown: Here Comes The Pain today.” This instantly sent everybody who liked wrestling and owned a PS2 into a frenzied joy.
This is the ultimate time for remastering games. Final Fantasy, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, and Destroy All Humans have all either been redone or are on the way with many more examples out there. And there may be no greater appreciation for nostalgia than wrestling fans. We just had an entire episode of Raw that was, as Sami Zayn quipped, "like watching the Attitude Era through the FaceApp".
This could be the ultimate win-win for the developer here. They get to cash in on a franchise everybody already knows and loves, whilst also exploring what made it successful to begin with. This could lead to us to not only getting the Here Comes The Pain remaster, but an improved WWE 2K20 as well. We can only hope that somewhere in that six hour meeting, it was at least discussed to return to this style of game. But the dream is that it leads to the remaster we all want.
