With a new generation of super-powered consoles, Star Wars titles are getting very complicated indeed. That doesn't mean they're getting better though, just look at the recently released Star Wars Battlefront, a mammoth undertaking that doesn't actually come with a great deal of content for its price tag. No, the best Star Wars games to my mind are the Rogue Squadron series. Rogue Squadron 2 is still the series highlight because it sticks to what it does best; putting you in the cockpit of a variety of iconic space ships and tasking you with various missions to hamper the evil Empire. It's tightly paced, it's thrilling, and there's not much better than destroying a fleet of Star Destroyers before moving on to tackle the second Death Star over the skies of Endor. Unfortunately Rogue Squadron 3 made the dud move of introducing some of the worst third person shooting segments that anyone has ever tried to wrap their thumbs around. Factor 5 is sadly no more, but the makers of new Star Wars games would do well to follow their example and double down on a singular element of what makes that franchise so beloved and offer the chance to inhabit the moments that captured the imaginations of so many generations over the years.
Stereotypically awkward writer, gamer and general nerd. Dislikes writing in the third person, likes tea as much as the next man but not as much as a typical blogger and has breath as fresh as a summer ham.
