2. Starship Troopers
Perhaps a more offbeat choice than some of the other more recognized franchises on the list, Starship Troopers has been around longer than any of them. Written by Robert A. Heinlein and released in 1959, Starship Troopers has remained a popular piece of military science fiction for over five decades. While most modern audiences will remember the 1997 film, its string of poorly made sequels and a great television CGI spin-off titled Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles. All these subsequent releases vary greatly from the source novel. A Starship Troopers video game was released in 2005 to mediocre reviews, but with a new reboot of the franchise on the cards, a game where you are a member of the Mobile Infantry, a Starship Troopers game should be an obvious choice for a first-person shooter. Verhoevens arachnids in the 1997 film provide some of the more memorable science fiction creatures of the 1990s. The modern trend of big action set-pieces would suit a Starship Troopers game should the films large scale bug battles be recreated. There are plenty of different worlds and changes of scenery too as well as the possible inclusion of the training sessions the cadets have to take before they become a member of the Mobile Infantry.
