In Tetris 99 you play Tetris against 98 other players, each with the ability to send garbage your way.
Tetris 99 might not necessarily be the fairest version of the game due to the possibility of getting dogpiled by numerous players, but it's this pure chaos that makes the game so enjoyable.
You can experience this pure chaos with numerous different themes as well such as themes revolving around Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Donkey Kong. There are also special themes that are released to coincide with the launch of new Nintendo games.
If you don't want to play against 98 other people but for some reason picked up the version of Tetris where that's the main selling point, then you can buy the Big Block DLC which gives you access to classic Tetris among other offline modes.
