7 Characters That Must Be Cut From Super Smash Bros. Switch

3. Lucina

Look at the image! They look almost identical.

In all seriousness, Lucina is, in almost every way, just a clone of Marth. Introduced into the Smash Bros. roster at the height of Fire Emblem: Awakening's popularity, Lucina was someone fans were desperate to see. However, it was Robin who took the fully-fledged new character spot, while Lucina was relegated to being a clone of Smash Bros. stalwart Marth, albeit with a slightly different damage-dealing point on her sword.

While fans wanted Lucina, they also want a lower number of clone characters in general (particularly Ganondorf, who has needed his own move set since his introduction in Melee). However, this doesn't mean Lucina needs to be cut from the roster entirely. One thing Smash needs to work on is including more interesting skins for its many characters, rather than simple colour swaps. Lucina would make a perfect alternate skin for Marth.

In this sense, Lucina is an example of a clone character done correctly - she's a character people want to see in Smash, but there isn't enough to differentiate her from Marth. So, making her a skin is the perfect way to keep her in the roster.
