7 Dead Video Game Franchises That Need A God Of War-Style Reboots
5. Prince Of Persia
If you were a gamer between the early to mid-2000's, chances are you were a big fan of Ubisoft's Prince Of Persia. Utilising a slick parkour system and innovative time mechanics, it didn't take long for the franchise to make its way into players' hearts. But after countless attempts to reawaken the franchise following the end of the Sands Of Time trilogy, the franchise's magic eventually fizzled out.
This is in most part down to how rigidly Ubisoft attempted to stick to the tried and tested formula, yet, perhaps a tale that trades the more fantastical story-telling of the prior games for a darker, grittier and ultimately more grounded experience would help reinvigorate the franchise.
Much like how God Of War stripped back the exaggerated platforming and combat of the previous titles, Prince Of Persia could do away with the wall-running and acrobatic swordplay to refine itself into a model that focuses on hard-hitting combat and ground-breaking time mechanics.
The franchise's world was always right on the brink of really embracing its gritty undertones, and - as God Of War shows - a setting as steeped in mythology as 9th century Persia would absolutely thrive in a darker setting. If Ubisoft is committed to reinventing this forgotten gem, they could have a slam dunk on their hands.
