7 Great Video Game Developers Who Keep Making TERRIBLE Mistakes
5. Capcom - Rinsing Us For Extra Content
To play devil's advocate, this one is actually a "full circle" thing for Capcom. They largely started in the arcades, which required money to keep playing, and now they're doing it with a lot of their current releases.
Except that that's bad and they should feel bad for it.
As of late, Capcom have been going through somewhat of a renaissance period. They've smashed records with the first "proper" Western Monster Hunter, as well as a successful Resident Evil reboot and two remakes.
So where is there this constant insistence on adding microtransactions and DLC to everything?
Well, short answer is it makes money, we all know that.
And to be fair(ish), a lot of it is mostly cosmetic additions that don't affect or unbalance gameplay. But what about the Street Fighter extra characters, or even whole new versions of it? Why do throwback costumes for Resident Evil have to be paid for?
But DLC should be an additional thought, not part of the business structure to a game's release. It's a shame when this is thought of a necessary inclusion, not a pleasant afterthought.
