7 Most Destructive Video Game Shotguns
6. Felwinter's Lie - Destiny
Destiny had a serious problem with its shotguns for some time after release.
In PVE the shotgun was disappointingly ineffective, particularly during endgame content, where getting close to an enemy usually meant a swift death. Which was a shame because Destiny’s shotguns felt satisfying and robust.
In PVP the problem was quite the opposite; certain shotguns could one-shot kill guardians, the most egregious examples were able to dominate mid-range as well as short-range encounters.
Felwinter’s Lie was perhaps the games most notorious shotgun, but the real problem lay in getting a god-roll of perks on certain shotguns.
Players desperately looked for perks that upped the range and consistency of their shotgun damage; ‘shot package’ was the most prized perk of all. The ‘shot package’ perk reduced the spread of the blast, exponentially increasing the range.
Some players relished using the controversial weapon class, while others decried them as cheap and OP. It seemed that Bungie agreed with the latter portion of the fanbase. Cue wide-ranging nerfs to Destiny's shotguns: ammo was made scarcer for secondary weapons, and the ‘shot package’ perk was removed from the game entirely.
