7 Most Destructive Video Game Shotguns
4. Sawed-Off Shotgun - Wolfenstein
When Wolfenstein: The New Order was released in 2014, developer MachineGames had clearly put some effort into designing their automatic shotgun, the Schockhammer. The gun is a beast; it boasts a huge magazine (20 shells!), has good range, fires stupidly fast, and can be dual-wielded; it will chew through the fascist ranks with ease.
However, something was a little unsatisfactory regarding the weapon: the lack of downsides to the gun. The Schlockhammer was a little too effective; it was actually quite boring to use.
It made me realise, the more hi-tech the shotgun, the less fun it is. Maybe this was a commonly held opinion because when standalone prequel, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood released, it included a new weapon - the sawed-off shotgun.
B.J. Blazkowicz finds the gun stashed away in a boat and quickly gets to work sawing down the barrel, when a zombie falls through the roof and bears down on our hero. A single blast from the new weapon quickly puts down the enemy; it’s an elegant introduction to the weapon’s ferocious firepower.
The sawed-off shotgun shines in close quarters, and although the constant reloading introduces an element of risk, it’s a lot of fun to use.
